Kendal W. White, P.E., CEM, GBE, CBIE, LEED AP

Area of Expertise

Kendall W. White is the President and owner of Criterium - White Engineers, a consulting engineering practice serving central Iowa and the city of Des Moines since 1999. Mr. White is a licensed Professional Engineer in the states of Iowa and Minnesota with over 30 years experience in engineering design and management. He has been awarded the Certified Energy Manager distinction from the Association of Energy Engineers. In addition to commercial building and residential investigative, structural, and environmental engineering, he has specific experience in instrumentation and control systems, building environmental system evaluation and design, process control and optimization, energy and economic analysis, and project management. Criterium - White Engineers provides industrial, commercial, and residential clients with engineering design, consulting, and environmental services. The firm also provides inspections for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to assess the condition of disaster-damaged housing.

Qualifications

Since starting his firm, Mr. White has provided Property Condition Assessments, Green Property Condition Assessments, Environmental Management System Evaluations, LEED Certification Design Reviews, Phase I Environmental Assessments, Structural Inspections, Home Inspections, Expert Witness Reports, and Energy Audits & Studies for over 1200 commercial and residential properties. This includes:

  • Property Condition Assessment for eight shopping centers, totaling 942,000 s.f., in Des Moines, Quad Cities, and Dubuque, IA.
  • Green Property Condition Assessments and Energy Audits for eight multi-family elderly apartment buildings for the HUD Office of Affordable Housing Preservation (OAHP) Program
  • LEED Certification Design Cost Review for the Harvard Allston Science Complex, Boston, MA
  • Property Condition Assessment for a 500 unit apartment complex, Minneapolis, MN
  • 48 Environmental Site Assessments including 86-acre and 135-acre shopping mall facilities in Madison, WI, four 60-acre shopping malls in St. Louis, MO, nine office, retail, and hotel buildings in Des Moines, IA
  • Construction Quality Inspection for 17-story residential building in Des Moines, IA, 66 unit assisted living facility in Panora, IA, new discount store shopping center in Cedar Falls, IA, and retail building in Waukee, IA.
  • Energy conservation studies for 75 industrial and commercial facilities in Iowa
  • Property Condition Assessment for seven office buildings, totaling 480,000 s.f., in Minneapolis, MN
  • FEMA Disaster-damaged housing condition assessments over 200 residential properties in Miami, FL and Oklahoma
  • National Flood Insurance Program Damage Assessments for twenty-eight homes in Cedar Rapids and throughout Central Iowa.

Prior to forming his own firm, Mr. White has had a broad range of senior level positions. As Senior Project Manager for Compressor Controls Corporation in Des Moines, IA he was responsible for planning, monitoring and controlling large key projects. As Senior Application Consultant, he provided application and engineering support for control strategy definition, proposal verification, economic analysis, energy and thermodynamic analysis, on-site surveys and field problem analysis.

Earlier in his career, Mr. White was responsible for building environmental and power systems energy analysis and conservation studies, building environmental systems specification, design and layout, and gained experience with computer based energy analysis and simulation programs.
